Narcissus

CAST BRONZE. Ø 15 CM

Everybody knows this edificatory story, which was narrated with the every possible art form. When Narcissus, the son of a river god named Cephissus and a nymph named Liriope, was 16 years old, a nymph named Echo fell in love with him. A beautiful creature, but cold and proud, he rejected the nymph’s love and  was punished by the Goddess Aphrodite. Once during hunting Narcissus saw his own reflection in the river, fell in love with himself and died from  distress and hunger, being unable to depart from the object of his love. When the people came to take the young man’s body away, they found a beautiful flower instead of him. Since then the name of Narcissus has become denominative, symbolizing pride and narcissism. And I registered in my medal the exact moment when Narcissus’s face starts its transformation into the flower, saying farewell with his eyes to the beloved image.
